1. The rooftop has a pool area, bar and observation deck for sweeping views of The French Quarter and the Mississippi River.

The rooftop is a killer - probably the best hotel view next to the Top of the Mark in San Francisco - a really nice heated pool, pretty good gym, locker rooms, terrace, bar (sometimes open), and the icing on the cake, a second and higher observation deck with tables and chairs, accessed by a 'secret' stair with a 360 view of the quarter, St Louis Cathedral spire, Mississippi River bridges and lights and boats, and the skyline of downtown.

7. My only real criticism of the Penthouse is that it didn't feed as separate as someone else might prefer--as the walkway to reach it was necessary to reach the rooftop pool and bar deck, as well.

So after two anniversaries spent at the Omni Royal Orleans, I can report that it is in the best possible location in the French Quarter, is perfectly appointed (the regular rooms are small, but managable and elegant - the one bedroom suites are large - bathrooms are not quite a wow but very, very nicely appointed and spotless), the staff is wonderful throughout, the nice doorman spoke to us every time we went in or out, the rooftop deck is heavenly and was never too crowded to enjoy - with access to the roof, you don't really need a balcony off your room.

13. Besides being a historically significant building, the property features a beautiful rooftop pool deck and bar area with an additional, higher observation deck that has a bird's eye view of the French Quarter, Mississippi River, Jackson Square, and beyond - complete with a telescope.

14. TIP: ask for a room on the 7th floor (the same floor as the rooftop pool deck and bar).
