1. When we entered our room there was temporary relief from the smoke smell that was so strong in the hall, that was only temporary however, and we realized that there was no escaping the smell of smoke in this hotel, at least not on the first floor.
2. Bed sheets were clean and fresh and the room smelled just fine.
3. As far as the smell of our room, the carpet was old and soiled, and there was a smell of smoke coming from the drapes/curtains.
4. I mentioned I had read online that someone got a nonsmoking room and it smelled like smoke, and then found out the rooms used to be smoking.
5. BUT I went to my room and immediately smelled smoke --- not fresh smoke, but it was a smoking room.
6. Room 2 had a non-smoking sign on it, but when I walked it, it had the same very-smoked-in smell.
7. Another guest, a 30-something well-dressed exec type (which is my normal dress), was passing by and willing to smell the room.
8. On the way out, I got a guest in the hall to smell the room, and he said 'definitely smoking.
9. I said I had checked the door and it was clearly a smoking room, and it smelled like it.
10. ' I said, 'I'm not clear how you can say that when the sign says smoking and the room smells like smoke.
11. 'But sir, that room is non-smoking!''Again, I had another guest smell the room with me to have a sanity check, and it has been smoked in and not freshened.
12. The room itself did not smell.
13. However, throughout the hotel, the hallways smelled of cigarette smoke, even on a floor of all 'non-smoking' rooms.
14. THE ROOMS SMELL LIKE A DEAD BODY IS ROTTING UNDER THE BED.
