1. There is a nice white sand beach about a 5 minute drive from the hotel.

Preferring the value end of the hotel spectrum, we have enjoyed internet specials from the Outrigger Keauhou (adjacent to the great snorkeling of Kahaluu Bay); the Royal Kona Resort (near downtown Kailua-Kona, formerly the Hilton before it moved to Waikoloa); and the semi-luxurious Hapuna Prince Hotel (on the best beach in Hawaii).

5. The location on Ali'l Drive is perfect, only a short drive from White sands beach and kahaluu beach ( best for right off the beach snorkelling) We stayed for a memorable 3 days thanks to Rob and Cathy ( the managers) .

6. There's beach stuff free for borrowing there too; fins, boards, snorkles, etc.Visit this independent hotel before its land gets gobbled up by some cookie-cutter mega chain.

7. Roomy, friendly staff, tasty continental, gorgeous view from room, handily located, nice quality towels and sheets (for a budget hotel), free internet, bbq grills (with charcoal), a pool, loaner coolers and beach toys, plentiful fluffy beach towels.

9. It has a terrific breakfast, 1.5 miles from downtown, stuff to borrow to play with on the beach, a great person behind the desk and a lot of returning guests.

10. Beaches are a short drive to the north and the south, with the best snorkeling I've seen on the Big Island.
