But compared to the others in and around the Quarter, you cannot miss with the Royal Sonesta - the location is superb for foodies grazing and drinkers pub-crawling; the rooms are so clean and well-appointed; the beds are just right for sleeping; the showers have plenty of water pressure and hot water and are very spacious; and the hallways free of litter and the other unsightly detritus that seems to wash up onto other French Quarter hotels.

It was inconvenient, to say the least, to come back to the room after being out all day, wanting to take a shower and get ready to go to dinner, and find that the room was being cleaned at 5:30 p.m. My only other negative experience was in the lounge (Irvin Mayfield's): It's understandable that they were a bit overwhelmed during the French Quarter Festival, but you'd think that they would have anticipated the crowd and risen to the occasion.
