Although room decor is pleasant and unvarying from the standard for this type of Holiday Inn, there are a variety of functional problems with the building and the location: (1) The internet connection in rooms is variable; when I checked in, broadband was completely out, and wireless worked in some rooms but not others; (2) There is no lobby as such, but only a raised desk in the first-floor corridor that also serves as an interior pedestrian passageway between two streets (the building was apparently converted several years ago from a bank headquarters); checking in feels more like standing at the security desk of an old office bulding; (3) Room a/c units are quite forceful and noisy; (4) The first room I was given had a mildewy smell, possibly because of moisture from the jacuzzi, and the second (nonsmoking) room had a strong odor of cigarette smoke; (5) Despite high ceilings and great views from some rooms, the building is located on a drab stretch of downtown Euclid Street, which was half torn up in August 2007 for cable-laying, repaving or whatever.
