Walking in the grounds at night with the illuminated swimming pool was a lovely way to unwind - it's always great to get a pool in a city and, although we didn't use it as a pool per se, we sat on sun loungers around the pool with a cocktail looking at it and letting all the stresses of work life in the UK melt away.

8. Sure, there are lots of great hotels in DC, but the Shoreham is unique, historic, and just downright interesting.

10. The rooms were luxurious and immaculate, with great quality sheets, towels, furnishings, etc and good soundproofing from the city outside - the room I was allocated had a balcony, so that was an unexpected bonus.
