1. But there's this retail department store vibe up front (not bar) that lacks warmth, and positively broadcasts 'Take care of yourself, traveler - you're GenX and not supposed to ask us for stuff.

The positives included a prompt- as requested- wake up call at 3:30 AM, a prompt shuttle ride to the airport terminal, a very warm and informative check-in registrar, Bliss toiletries (lovely), a 24 hour breakfast/snack area in the lobby, swimming pool, inviting bar and lounge,complimentary newspapers, free internet connection, and comfortable and spotless bedding.

4. Let me preface this review by saying that I picked this hotel for my first trip to Portland, Oregon based on the positive reviews and an intense love for trendy decor and glass shower doors (gosh, I can't stand an old shower curtain).

5. From the moment you get on the shuttle from the airport (less than a mile away) the experience is positive.
