1. But the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort is a good compromise, with reasonable rates (especially considering the complimentary breakfast buffet) and a location that is quiet and scenic but only a short distance from the center of Kailua-Kona.

9. The turtles are amazing to watch, from your balcony or walking around the grounds; there are interesting birds all over the well maintained grounds, and it is a 2-min walk to a great snorkeling beach.

10. We keep coming back to this hotel because of its location right on the ocean, next door to Kahalu'u Beach Park (an excellent snorkeling spot, though it does get rather crowded), and a short distance to a convenient drug store and grocery store.
