1. Beginning with a considerate welcome from the valet (who remembers names), to the smiling front desk, chambermaids, pool attendants, concierge - everyone cares for the guest in this otherwise dated property in the heart of the Collins Ave hotel row.

2. The large pool is expertly maintained with many chaise lounges, although hulking new high-rises on either side gradually eliminate the pool sun from about 200pm.

4. If I was to recommend a hotel it would be the Grand Beach Hotel next door, where we spend 7 nights at the beginning of our trip; perfect location on the beach, clean, beautiful decor, lush pool and hot tubs and great food.

6. The pool is absolutely amazing - huge and warm, and in the evenings when the lights go on it is totally incredible how the lights in the pool change colors, and as you swim you look as if you are lighting up.
