2. The rooms and beds are wonderfully comfortable, the staff are lovely, enthusiastic and helpful, and the location is prime for DC, especially given the reasonableness of the rates (with a few notable exceptions during high-season).

4. I popped down to DC from New York for a very last minute Saturday night stay and found that the Topaz, part of the always reliable Kimpton collection, not only had a great rate, but was perfectly located for meeting my friends and getting to their preferred dinner and brunch spots.

8. )I stay in a lot of top-notch hotels for business, so it was tough to compare Topaz because they aren't aiming for the business amenities crowd--for a 'lets to go Washington for a few days', though, I rate it a very good.

The Good:- Location was fantastic, close to Metro and Circulator, and in a great neighborhood- Helpful, friendly and approachable staff- Very reasonable rate with AAA- Rooms were spotless- Free and fast wifi if you sign up for Kimpton's rewards programThe Not-so-good (these are minor quibbles, but sometimes the devil is in the details)- At $12, the continental breakfast was overpriced, routine and understocked.

10. We booked the Topaz because of the great reviews on trip advisor, and the $99 rate we found through their summer sale email they send to Kimpton in touch members (free).
