5. While in NYC to meet some friends for dinner we popped up to 92nd and Madison to check out the Hotel Wales which had rates of $291 for a room, the Area is lovely quiet near many museums one block from bus route on 5th and surrounded by wonderful restaurants.

6. We were there in September and the roof top bar was only open on a Thursday I think, although it is a nice quiet, sunny spot to read a book in the afternoon.

8. Although it was on the front of the hotel, there were no windows overlooking Madison and that, combined with the location on the tenth floor, meant it was quiet.

9. There is much that is charming about the Wales--the neighborhood is quiet and lovely (though perhaps a bit inconvenient), proximity to Sarabeth's (in the building) is a breakfast plus, the staff is friendly, and the hotel is small with a cozy, European feel.

10. I'm a city girl (I actually live in NY, but don't have enough room for all of us in my apartment) and am used to street noise, but it was unusually evident here (fortunately the neighborhood itself is relatively quiet, but traffic and garbage trucks are still easily heard).
