Would have taken stairs anyway, just felt
bad
for elders and people traveling with small children, also when asking the front desk for info he acted like we spoke another language.

One last word on Hilo, all the other hotels were just as
bad
, so I recommend finding a bed & breakfast, or don't go there at all.
