1. I never once heard noise coming from it and my room was right above it.

It appeared that some of the rooms were indeed undergoing the refurbishment which I just mentioned - now whilst it was encouraging to see the hotel giving them something of a makeover, it would have been nice if we had actually been told there would be extensive work and noise occurring on our floor whilst we were there.
